World Travel List: 71+ Countries... Artistic Inspiration Through Adventure Travel

Much of my artistic inspiration originates from my travel adventures. The way I travel is somewhat unusual and quite spontaneous compared to most. The idea of booking an entire trip in advance is just ludicrous to me — how could I possibly know how long I'd want to stay somewhere without having been there yet? And, what about all those off the beaten track opportunities that inevitably pop up along the way? By booking everything before even leaving, most of the serendipitous moments that are such apart of my travel style and art work would cease. For example, the highlight of my most recent trip was Kathmandu, Nepal, in a country I hadn't even planned on visiting...

Traveling like this is magical. It sets me free in surreal settings and opens up the flood gates of inspiration. It's in mystical places like these, when the culture shock that I'm experiencing is strongest, that I feel most alive — an addictive rush and and artistic fountain all in one. With camera and journal, I capture these experiences, collecting them both in photographs and prose — artistic fuel for my abstract paintings when I return home to my studio.

Back in the studio, painting is my way of savoring and expressing these experiences. The exotic destinations and stories collected along the way often inspire the poetic titles I create for each of the paintings. These titles then in turn help to lead my viewers in the right direction about where I was, and what I was thinking or feeling during the initial inception of the idea behind the abstraction...
